Vidding, Part IV A
Cutting the muted clips tighter and compiling the video

Here's where things start to come closer together. You get overly familiar with the song your working with because there's a lot of play, stop, repeat, cut closer, adjust, etc. This is also where you can take the lyrics that we worked on in Part II, and look through the video files you've cut for scenes that best represent that stanza or instrumental section, depending on how literal a translation of music to video you're looking for could be easy or difficult based on your source material.

You're doing a lot more frame by frame work at this point to cut things as close as you can to fit. As an example, we'll go to our Battlestar Galactica episode 212, "Resurrection Ship, Part II" file: BSG_212_ResurrectionShipII_AdmiralsPromotion. mpg that currently runs at 2 min, 48 seconds. It's too long for what we might need, so we cut it in closer. Say we just need an 10-15 second part of that segment. We pick the best part of that clip that says what we want, and cut it closer. Even if its a bit longer than we need we can trim tighter in our compiler.

We're going to back up to Part II again and open up the video compiler. Go to the 'File' tab in the top left corner of the program window and scroll down to the file you were previously working on. As I mentioned in that section, the fanvid file I was working on was called "Prospero's Speech". Whichever video clips I want to use, I will import into the program. You can do this by going clicking on the 'Import Media' button. Alternatively, you can also hold down the 'Ctrl' key + 'I'.

More to come...
